Raelia grew up in Melbourne and completed her Medical degree in 2004 at Monash University. After graduating with Honours, Raelia trained as a Gynaecologist and Obstetrician at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney.
Raelia completed her Masters degree in Medicine in Reproductive Health Science and Human Genetics at The University of Sydney in 2009. Raelia’s PhD in Preconception Health Promotion and Reproductive Genetics was completed at The University of Sydney in 2016, with contributing research undertaken in Cambridge, UK. Preconception Genetic carrier Screening and applying IVF for the purposes of pre-implantation genetic diagnosis remains a passion of Raelia’s clinical practice. Helping couples affected by or carrying the risk of genetic disease to have healthy babies is one of the greatest miracles of IVF treatment.
As a qualified specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Raelia undertook RANZCOG (Royal Australia and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists) accredited Certification in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (CREI) training.
Fewer than 2% of Australian Obstetricians and Gynaecologists hold a CREI. It represents the highest level of Australasian post-graduate training in IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation, Reproductive Endocrinology, Advanced Minimally-Invasive Gynaecology Surgery, Comprehensive Fertility Care, Andrology (Male Fertility and hormone management) and Assisted Reproductive Technologies.
Raelia is a leading Australian researcher in the field of elective egg freezing. She is both first author of the current ANZSREI consensus statement on elective oocyte cryopreservation and co-investigator of the NHMRC Eggsurance Decision Aid.
Raelia has held a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Melbourne position for 9 years and is actively involved in medical student and registrar teaching at the University of Melbourne and the Royal Women’s Hospital, Melbourne.
